I knew that I had a passion for working in the wedding industry because of my photography business, but when I started working as a wedding coordinator at The Club at Corazon, it made me realize that I love this job. When working in the wedding industry, it is very fast paced, and it is so important to pay attention to all of the details. I hope to continue learning about this industry and what it is like to be in the planning side of weddings to hopefully someday start my own wedding venue and be the lead wedding coordinator.
One of my short term goals would be in the next 2 weeks give a tour of the venue by myself to couples who are interested in having their wedding there. I think this is an achievable goal because I have been on several tours with the owner and wedding manager, and I did do one myself, but the wedding manager did it with me. I know everything that I need to say, it is just gaining the confidence to do it myself.
Another short term goal for myself would be to do a tasting with one of our couples. A tasting is when they try the food they want at their wedding, and at the same time I find out all of the information about their wedding. What time things are going to happen, if they are saving their top tier for the cake, every single detail I can get about their wedding. This is another doable goal because I have sat in on a few other tastings with the wedding manager.
My long term career goal would be to build and own a wedding venue. I have had this goal in the back of my head for a couple of years now and I would love to make it come true within the next 10 years. I say 10 years because it will take awhile to actually build the venue, make sure that I have all the financials set up, and have all the plans laid out. I feel like this is a realistic goal for me since I have so much experience in the wedding industry. During this internship of mine, the owner has given me tips on what not to do and things I do need to do when the day comes that I have a venue.
A few of my strengths would be: hard worker, flexible, willing to step in where needed, dependable, and dedicated. A recent example for how I will step in where needed actually happened at the first wedding I helped with at my internship. Our Chef did not have enough staff to help plate the entrees for the wedding, so I stepped up and helped. This was out of my zone because I didn't know what I was even doing, but it worked out perfectly, and Chef appreciated it. I am dedicated to any work I am given. If someone gives me a list of things they want me to complete, I will go above and beyond and work hard to complete those things in the time frame they give me.
A few of my weaknesses would be that at first I am really shy and backwards around people I don't know, and I can lack confidence in myself and sometimes my work. I have been working on those two things that I listed for about a year now. I believe that I have come out a little of my shell and gained some confidence, and it all was because of my hotel internship last year. Talking with guests consistently made me not be as shy. A way that I can develop my confidence is to realize that I know what I'm doing, and listen to people when they say "that looks great" or something along the lines of that.
